John C. in the City

John C.

Major: Biomedical Engineering; Hometown: Fulshear, Texas; High School: Foster High School
From the Lions Mouth:
“After taking introductory courses my first year, I was introduced to Biomedical Engineering, which seemed like a great fit. I’m fascinated with the integration of biology and engineering principles. My favorite project thus far was when I built a vital signs monitor in my biomedical engineering lab course.”
My Extracurricular Activities:
My Columbia Day:
  • 9:10 a.m.

Begin my day with Quantitative Physiology: Organ Systems, a Biomedical Engineering course. I love learning from Professor Barclay Morrison since he genuinely wants to teach and enrich students’ minds.

  • 10:35 a.m.

Listen to Verdi and Wagner in a session about opera in Music Humanities.

  • 1:00 p.m.

Attend the Art of Engineering, the first-year design course for engineering students, as a Teaching Assistant. In my role as a TA, I not only get to support students as they learn Matlab, but I get to help them overcome any challenges as well as meet the first-year class!

  • 5:00 p.m.

Head downtown with friends to enjoy the nice weather andthe sushi buffet at Ichi Umi.

  • 7:00 p.m.

Come back to campus to offer a weekly study break to students through the Columbia University Games Club. I was named the president of the Games Club after winning a board game against my friends. It’s a great forum for students to relax, have fun and play with over 100 games at our disposal.
