Meet Our Students

-
11:00 a.m.
Discuss some of the Contemporary Civilization authors – such as Locke and Descartes – as we talk about the larger field of education with Mark Lilla in Themes in Intellectual History: Education.
-
12:00 p.m.
After lunch, discuss the Supreme Court’s role in American democracy in History of the Supreme Court with Judge Joseph Greenaway, a CC ’78 alumnus and current judge on the US Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. In this course, we’ve traveled to hear oral arguments at the Supreme Court and even met Justice Kagan!
-
2:00 p.m.
Meet with my fellow Columbia Outdoor Orientation Program (COOP) program coordinators. COOP is one of the best communities on campus. I’ve led two amazing trips into the Catskills Mountains and now I’m helping to organize the full program (where we’ve doubled financial aid to program participants).
-
4:00 p.m.
Go downtown to the middle school where I’m tutoring eighth-grade students through Breakthrough New York. I am tutoring them in writing and helping them produce a high school-level research paper. I got involved after interning with the organization in Austin, Texas one summer.
-
6:00 p.m.
Stop in the East Village to pick up delicious French fries at Pommes Frites.
-
8:00 p.m.
Attend rehearsal for Latenite Theater, a showcase of original, student-written and often-comedic short plays. We don’t take ourselves too seriously; it’s fun to perform some truly zany theater for the Columbia community for free.
