Lunch Visits

John Jay Dining HallJohn Jay is one of the many dining options on campus.

Lunch visits are available to high school seniors only in the fall semester.  This forty-five minute experience offers the prospective student an opportunity to learn more about Columbia over complimentary lunch with a current student and a small group of other prospective students in John Jay Dining Hall. The program is exclusively for the registered prospective student; family members and friends visiting Columbia with the prospective student are encouraged to explore campus or enjoy lunch in our surrounding neighborhood.

Lunch visits will be offered Thursdays promptly at 12 p.m. beginning September 2014, and concluding November 2014. Dates will be released in the summer. An RSVP is required and registration will be available in the summer.

Registration is limited for each date and will close once capacity is reached. We kindly ask that you do not register for a specific date until you are certain you can attend. Prospective students may sign up for only one Lunch Visit or one Overnight Visit. Multiple, active registrations for the same student on different dates will void all dates, and the student will not be allowed to participate.

We encourage all prospective students visiting campus also to attend an Information Session and Campus Tour.

Overnight Visits

John Jay Residence HallColumbia guarantees housing for undergraduates for all 4 years.

Overnight visits are an excellent way for prospective students to experience a day in the life of a Columbian. If you already know a current Columbia undergraduate student, we encourage you to make your own arrangements to stay with him or her. You do not need to notify the admissions office of your arrangements, as Columbia does not track prospective student visits.

If, however, you do not know a current student, we are happy to provide a host for you. Overnight Visits arranged through the Office of Undergraduate Admissions are available only to high school seniors in the fall semester. This one-night experience offers the prospective student an opportunity to learn more about Columbia by staying with a first-year student host in an on-campus residence hall. Overnight visitors should be prepared to sleep on the floor of a host’s bedroom and to share a communal bathroom. Hosts may have obligations including class, studying, club meetings, and employment on campus while hosting a prospective student. It is suggested that overnight visitors bring their homework, reading and a flexible attitude for the visit. All students must bring photo identification in order to enter the residence halls. The program is exclusively for the registered prospective student; all family members and friends who may be visiting campus with the student must find alternate accommodations.

Overnight Visits will be offered Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays beginning September 2014, and concluding November 2014. Check-in for Overnight Visits takes place at 4 p.m. in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. An RSVP is required and registration will be available in the summer.

Please note that admitted students will have the opportunity to spend at least one night at Columbia in April during Days on Campus, our annual series of events for admitted students.

If the only date you are able to attend is full, please contact Jill Hartman, Senior Admissions Officer, to inquire about cancellations. We encourage all prospective students visiting campus also to attend an Information Session and Campus Tour.
