While data alone is insufficient to reveal the depth, dedication and inspiration that the Class of 2028 brings to the Columbia community, we are pleased to share the following statistics to give some insight into our most recent incoming class. This is an incredible group of individuals with the capacity to do great things in our community and the world.
The students admitted into the Class of 2028 were evaluated in a race-neutral process, as required by last year’s Supreme Court ruling. The data below presents some variation between this class and previous years, including changes in ethnic and racial representation. What remains consistent—throughout up and down variations in many demographic and socioeconomic categories—is Columbia’s deep commitment to enrolling students who come from diverse backgrounds. Our dedication to academic excellence in all its facets is intrinsically tied to our commitment to diversity in its many expressions. This interplay forms a cornerstone of our academic mission.
This incoming class joins a university community where diversity is demonstrably and resoundingly present. Columbia will continue to adjust our recruitment strategies to do everything we can—within the limits of the law—to identify and recruit talent from far and wide and to build an undergraduate student population that represents the fullest possible diversity of voice and background.
It is important for all applicants to understand that, beyond academic excellence and preparedness, there is no one factor that determines whether they will receive an offer of admission. We do not admit students based on any single factor or to fill quotas. Rather, each application is assessed holistically based on the entirety of its substance and context. To that end, we encourage all prospective students to use their application as an opportunity to present the best and most complete version of themselves.
