Mike Massimino, a former NASA astronaut, is a renowned professor specializing in spaceflight research. His expertise encompasses human factors, robotics, spacewalking, displays and controls, and planetary exploration. During his tenure at NASA from 1996 to 2014, Massimino flew in space twice and conducted four spacewalks for the Hubble Space Telescope servicing missions. His research interests focus on the design challenges of human space travel, including spacecraft design, spacesuits, spacewalking techniques, psychology of spaceflight, training, mission control, robotics, environmental control and life support, aerospace medicine, and habitability. He holds records for spacewalking time and was the first person to tweet from space. Massimino is also known for his appearances on the sitcom "The Big Bang Theory" and his bestselling book, "Spaceman: An Astronaut's Unlikely Journey to Unlock the Secrets of the Universe." Massimino earned multiple degrees from Columbia University and MIT, including a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering. He is a Fellow of the Explorer's Club and serves as an advisor at the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum.
