Meet Our Students

Melissa K.

From the Lions Mouth
“What's great about Columbia is that you find yourself belonging to many small groups that are all interacting, all part of the larger university. For myself, I have communities with my floor in John Jay, in my Literature Humanities class, and with my fellow dancers, to name a few. It's exciting to see how these overlap and to know that there are so many different perspectives, yet everyone is eager to learn and to share.”
My Extracurricular Activities
My Columbia Day
  • Begin my day with breakfast in Ferris Booth Commons before doing some homework before class starts.

  • Attend Frontiers of Science, a Core class that ties together my interests in sciences with the broader world. Today we are discussing behavioral and physiological bases of diseases of the retina and optic nerve with Professor Don Hood from the Psychology department.

  • Rehearse with the Barnard/Columbia Dances at New York Live Arts series, which offers students the opportunity to work with notable New York City and national dancers across a range of dance types. We hold culminating performances at the end of each semester at the New York Live Arts space downtown.

  • Attend board meeting for the Columbia Ballet Collaborative, which is comprised of students from across the university and includes some current and former professional dancers. We’ve performed throughout New York City and the Columbia community, which is an exciting opportunity to spread my love of dance.
